Hey Guys

How are you doing !

Past one month has been a crazy ride for me. Last month I planned on a family vacation to the United States of America to spend my summer in the west coast. It was a family trip we planned after almost 2 years thus we made sure it would be a long one. This was my first time visiting the States. We decided to cover the west coast in detail which included the major cities as well as doing the not so touristy things. Well this time I also managed all my family to be more adventurous than the usual . I will be sharing my American Travelogue in 3 parts with you, which will be divided into three major categories

  • Road Tripping – My road trip experience from San Francisco to Monterey and the 17 mile drive with stunning picturesque spots that came along our way.
  • Cities on the West Coast – My travelling experience to the major 4 cities of the west coast which included San Francisco, Los Angeles, San Diego and Las Vegas along with the Grand Canyon experience.
  • The Crater Lake experience – Hitting on to the roads again to Oregon state and experiencing the beauty of the most beautiful lake formed out of a volcanic eruption and my experience of staying in the lost woods.

Here is a map below which jots down the places I have visited in the west coast of USA

Road Tripping

My journey started from San Francisco city where I spent major part of my vacation. After spending 1 night in the city  next day we headed for a road trip on a rented SUV to Monterey city. We drove down to the most scenic roads of California . After a 4-5 hour drive we reached this charming coastal city of Monterey.  We chilled at Fisherman’s Wharf where I had one of the most amazing sea food of my life. Post the hogging sessions we headed off on rented bicycles,I was so elated to ride them after so long, you really don’t get the chance to do that on the roads of India unfortunately. The whole family riding on the bicycles along the shore side and exploring beautiful spots to chill was a fun experience overall. We also went for a whale watching experience, that was the highlight of the day. We could see the whales spouting water and making noises from a close distance, that was ethereal.

Post the whale watching experience we got back on to the roads, and headed for a 17 mile scenic drive by the shore. Continuing along the coast with a drive down 17-Mile Drive, home to the prestigious Pebble Beach Golf Course where US Golf Open is held and further lined with the iconic Lone Cypress tree. Listening to the barking clamor of Seal Rock with hundreds of sea lions and seals chilling on the rock. We further drove along this low-lying coastal road framed by luxury mansions and incredible ocean vistas. There were several amazing scenic stops on our way, amongst which the Bird Rock and Seal Rock were my favourites . The beautiful marine life along with the sea loins struck us with awe. We visited the chic coastal community of Carmel-by-the-Sea, where we browsed high-end galleries and saw remnants of a historic Spanish mission.

We ended this beautiful day with a long drive to the Big Sur and Pfeiffer beach to witness a gorgeous sunset. The good part of USA is that the sunset takes place around 9pm so you can make the most of the day. After having dinner at Chillies Restaurant  on the highway after which we headed back to our hotel in San Francisco. That was a perfect start to my vacation, and I couldn’t ask for a better one. Next day was going to be a long one as we were heading for our city trail experience which included 3 days halts each in Los Angeles, San Diego and Las Vegas. I will be sharing my amazing from the cities in the next post of the series. Till then enjoy the visuals from my journey below.

Lots of Love

Shivi Tandon.
