Today we will be sharing my in-depth skincare routine which we promised to feature yonks ago. And here it is.
Shivi’s Skincare Routine
I have always had problems with my skin. I never really had the classic teenage acne and but it seems the problem maker is now making it’s way. My acne is always stress-related and that’s probably the one thing I’ve had to try to get under control. When I have bad weeks, I can almost always see it on my face first.
Here’s what works for me though:
One // Stick to the routine
So once I came up with a routine, sticking to it routinely every night was what really tipped the scale. It allowed me to anticipate what my skin would be like every morning. And I feel like it was important to just get into the habit of running through the motions. It used to take me forever to get ready for bed, but now I can almost do my skincare routine completely in my sleep.
Two // Cleanse
I keep wipes like these in my gym bag for cleansing my face before and/or after working out. I typically remove makeup if I have it on before the class and I’ll use them again after class to get rid of any sweat.
At night, I use ‘Nuetrogena Cleansing Milk’ as my primary cleanser. It’s incredible and the only cleanser I trust right now. It’s gentle on the skin, yet does everything including removing makeup. I’d be willing to try another cleanser if someone told me one was particularly amazing, but I’m not giving up my Nuetrogena Cleansing milk right now. It’s way too good.
Three // Exfoliate
I went in for an emergency facial a few months ago with my favorite girl and she told me that the little breakouts I had could be fixed by incorporating a scrub into my everyday routine. My skin is really sensitive and scrubs can do more harm than good so I generally try to only use it on my problem areas (namely my nose and chin). I’ve been using and loving Lotus Berry Scrub. I also use Everyuth Exfoliating watnut scrub about once a week, typically in the shower, to gently exfoliate.
Four // Moisturize
Hands down my favorite moisturizer in the entire universe is VLCC Honeh Moisturizer . I swear by it and everyone that I’ve recommended it to loves it as well. It’s just a great moisturizer for dry skin. If you have an oily skin you can go for the VLCC Lavang Moisturizer. Moisturizers are incredibly important and this has been probably the single most important addition to my routine as an adult.
Five// Masks
I try to do a mask every week. If I can, I’ll put it on before getting into the bathtub to relax for ten or so minutes. For some reason, I have a ton of various masks in my bathroom and every now and then I’ll try something new, but my go-to mask is Aroma Magic Activated Bamboo Charcoal Face Mask . It makes my skin feel softer and look brighter.
Now and then I also apply a home made honey mask, you can mix honey with lemon or oatmeals for acne prone skin. If you want to go for a glowing skin face mask go ahead by mixing honey with banana or besan, trust me it works wonders.
That’s the general bulk of my skincare routine. I use other products sometimes, but this what I follow consistently. The more things I include, the more shortcuts I tend to take. It’s much better for me– and my skin– to stick to something simple.
Srishti’s Skincare Routine
Getting to know your skin type and how it reacts to certain products can be a life-long journey of discovery. With dry skin, that journey usually begins with tight, flaky pores and ends with drowning them in all the creams, lotions and potions you can get your hands on.
Having dry skin, acne and sensitivity aren’t concerns on my radar.
Here’s what I do:
Morning Menu
- I wash my face with lukewarm water to wake myself up without drying the skin or constricting my pores.
- To cleanse my skin I use a sulfate-free, non-lathering cleanser. Sodium or Ammonium Laureth/Lauryl Sulfate are extremely drying and irritating to the skin so try looking for cleansers without these ingredients.
- Moisturize, Moisturize, Moisturize, the key for dry skin types. I apply the moisturizer right after cleansing to lock in the water before it evaporates. Also, my moisturizer contains SPF which helps my skin to protect against the sun’s damaging rays.
Day Menu
- My skin tends to dry as it’s exposed to the elements throughout the day. That’s why it’s important to re-apply moisturizer whenever I notice my skin’s becoming dry. I carry a moisturizer in my bag so I can dab a little on whenever necessary.
- I drink lots and lots of water to keep my skin hydrated throughout the day.
Night Menu
- At night, I once again cleanse my skin to remove makeup and the day’s pollutants with a non-harsh, sulfate-free cleanser using lukewarm water.
- Immediately after, I apply a heavy moisturizer that sinks in throughout the night.Creams rich in shea butter, hyaluronic acid, glycerin or oils such as olive, coconut, jojoba or argan oil are my skin’s best friends. These creams are too heavy for the day so you should just apply them at night so that they have enough time to absorb.
