TRAVEL DIARIES

MUKTESHWAR, UTTARAKHAND, INDIA

I start my journey towards the hills again. What I like the most about the hills is the tranquility. The fact that you can just sit there and think about anything and everything. Or you can relax and just listen. Breathe. The whispering winds, the high mountains, the tiny views of the people doing the usual everyday activities, the sun glowing in all it’s might, the babbling of the brook that you’ve put your feet in. Cold. Think about where the water comes from. Where the ice melts to take a new mould. From solid to liquid. Just like me, in the hills, I change. I’m the calmest person you will come across. Doing nothing but reading a book, listening and relaxing. Feel all the muscles in your body just..relax. The air so crisp, it feels like running your hand in a pond of water. So calm, so serene. Where you have no shopping malls, no traffic, no people. Just you and the mountains. I want to choose one. One to build my house on. I can choose whichever one I want, they’re all ours. They’ll still be there anytime you come to visit. When the first ray of sunshine hits your face, and the fragrance of the flowers reaches your nose, just know that it’s the mountains you’re in. You’re going to wake up to the calm and it’s going to remain that way. Nothing is more beautiful. Nothing is more elegant. Nothing is more picturesque.

DAY 1:

Having been to Mukteshwar plenty of times, we have collected a few places that you should not miss. Many people are aware of the beautifully designed Shiv Mandir because of the amount of bells it has (tip: take a small bell with you and tie it on the fence amongst others). What not many people know is the other side of the Mandir, where some adventure sports take place. Zipping, rock climbing and rappelling are the major hits which you will keep as memories forever. Also, it might rain cats and dogs a second after it is beautifully sunny. Yes, unpredictable and how. Also you need to buy a pair of comfortable sport shoes to enjoy your trek and holiday. To avoid the sun, you must carry a sunscreen, an umbrella, a hat and sunglasses or get tanned!
